Classic Spike Lee. I wish I could go back and see the neighborhood where this story took place. The italian-american culture is one that intrigues me. You could argue against their lifestyle (consistent substance abuse, with a focus on cigarettes, heroin, and cocaine), but why question the way a person lives their life? If you ask me, when I see characters like the ones in this story I sometimes feel guilt for not doing more of what I like. I am not referring to substance abuse, I am simply referring to living life without regrets or concerns about what others say or would say. Summer of Sam isn’t for everyone, but for such an old flick it relates to a hell of a lot of people.
